After moving to New Orleans in 2002, Kyle Sharamitro graduated from Loyola University's jazz percussion performance program and has proudly been a drum instructor for over 7 years.  His teachings have been shared with students of all levels, as seen in the varied age (from 4 to 60), skill (beginner to professionals), and prior experience of his current and former students.  During his high school career, he participated in All-District concert and jazz band, and annually performed as a soloist and an ensemble member at the State Band Festivals.  It was during these formative years that he began studying with Stanton Moore.  Kyle continued studying with Stanton through high school and college.  As a student at Loyola University,

Kyle was fortunate to also study with the great Johnny Vidcacovich for several years.  Johnny and Stanton, along with Kyle's other teachers Herlin Riley and Russell Batiste, really helped shape his musical vision.  Since arriving in New Orleans in 2002, Kyle has been putting his professional and educational skills to work throughout New Orleans and South Louisiana in a variety of ways.  For instance, he was chosen to be an instructor for the Mandeville High School Drum line during their summer camps.

He has also given master classes to the area's youth on New Orleans' revered drumming history, demonstrating his knowledge and insight through a series of musical explanations on the drum kit.  Kyle is a great source of knowledge for the music that has been made in New Orleans in the last 100 years.  As a professional performer, he has worked with many of the top acts in town, performing locally at the N.O Jazz & Heritage Festival, and headlining concerts as far away as Homer, Alaska and Bangalore, India!  Kyle's diverse musical background, with experience in genres such as funk, jazz, folk, blues, rock, and traditional New Orleans music, have made him a very sought after drummer in a city where being versatile aught to be viewed as a necessity.

I feel like Kyle will be a strong asset to my Drum Academy community as he has studied extensively with both me and my mentor Johnny Vidacovich, and has also graduated from Loyola University along with myself and Johnny. Kyle and I are like-minded and share a lot of the same musical and educational values.  He will be on board to answer questions, teach Skype lessons and help guide the members of our community in their quest to take their drumming to the next level.

OUR TEACHERS

JOHNNY VIDACOVICH

Johnny is a globally respected New Orleans legend whose singular style has been featured with greats as diverse as Professor Longhair, Astral Project, Mose Allison and John Scofield.  Johnny has been teaching for many years both privately and at Loyola University where he taught myself, Brian Blade, Kevin O’Day and many other great drummers who are playing professionally today.

I consider Johnny to be my teacher, mentor, spiritual advisor and good friend.  He is available for Skype lessons and will be a great addition to the Drum Academy.  I feel that drummers at any level can benefit from Johnny’s wisdom and guidance.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Stanton Moore is a dedicated drummer and performer especially connected to the city, its culture and collaborative spirit. Driven and inspired by the thriving music scene of his hometown which includes such greats as Professor Longhair, Doctor John and The Meters, Moore’s name is now mentioned amongst these Big Easy mainstays.

In the early ‘90s, Moore helped found the New Orleans-based essential funk band Galactic. Their first album, 1996’s widely acclaimed Coolin’ Off, led to an intense tour schedule of nearly 200 gigs a year for the next ten years. Building on their fan base by adding an esteemed list of all-star collaborations to the six albums that followed, Galactic continues to amass a worldwide audience via recording and touring globally.   Moore launched his solo career in 1998 aided by eight-string guitar virtuoso Charlie Hunter and saxophonist Skerik (Les Claypool, John Scofield, Roger Waters). The group recorded All Kooked Out! featuring a handful of local New Orleans musicians as well.
